Video: Proper Closed Guard Armbar by Alex Smith by BJJ Fanatics. Not affiliated with MatRecap; their version may differ from this drill.
Technique recap
The armbar from closed guard isolates one arm, swings your hips to an angle, and brings your leg across the face to finish with a controlled hip lift. Solo reps groove the hip angle and leg path.
3 key details
- Clamp the arm to your chest before you swing.
- Pivot your hips until you're nearly perpendicular to your opponent.
- Thumb up, lift the hips slowly: control beats speed.
