Video: How to Throw the Perfect Jab in Boxing by Tony Jeffries. Not affiliated with MatRecap; their version may differ from this drill.
Technique recap
The jab is the punch you use most in boxing. It measures distance, sets up your power shots and keeps your opponent busy. Throwing it well comes down to a straight line out, a quick return and a guard that stays up.
3 key details
- Turn the lead fist over at the end and keep the elbow in line behind it.
- Keep the rear hand on your chin the whole time.
- Snap it back along the same line it went out on.
